WoW Classic Guide: TBC Anniversary Realms, Phases and Tips for Returning Players
World of Warcraft Classic gives you the older expansions on official realms. The TBC Anniversary realms have been live since February 5, 2026, and are in the middle of their expansion. This guide covers how the realms work, what has been released and what is still coming, and the habits that help new and returning players get through the content.
Quick start
- Pick a realm type that fits how you play. PvE is calmer, PvP is more competitive, and the rules differ between them.
- Learn your class’s core spells and roles before your first dungeon. Classic content punishes missed interrupts and cooldowns.
- Join a guild early. Dungeons, raids, and profession help are far easier with a group.
- Check the current phase before you plan a raid. Gear and attunement requirements change across phases.
- Keep an eye on the official patch notes, since Classic has frequent technical patches.
Which Classic version are you playing?
There are several Classic versions, each with its own realms and rules. The two you are most likely to see are:
| Version | Status (per reports) | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| TBC Anniversary | Live since February 5, 2026 | Burning Crusade content. Phases are released over time. |
| Classic Era | Live | Original vanilla content, with technical patches. The most recent named patch in these sources was 1.15.9 in July 2026. |
Season of Discovery will not get fresh realms, according to Blizzard’s statement on June 29, 2026. Wrath Classic and Mists of Pandaria Classic were not confirmed in the sources used for this guide, so check the official announcements before planning around them.
What has been released on TBC Anniversary
The realms are in the middle of the Burning Crusade expansion. Phase 3 added Black Temple, Mount Hyjal, Netherwing dailies, and Arena Season 3, and removed the attunement requirements for Black Temple and Hyjal.
Two phases remain, both slated for autumn. The final phase, Sunwell Plateau, has no exact date yet.
Core habits for Classic realms
Learn your role
Tanks, healers, and damage dealers each have their own job in a dungeon. Know your cooldowns, your interrupts, and what the group needs before you pull.
Plan your professions
Professions give you gear, consumables, and gold. Choose two that support your class, and use the auction house or trade chat to buy the materials you cannot gather yourself.
Use your guild
Guilds help with groups, raid spots, and item needs. Join one that matches your schedule and your goals, whether that is casual dungeons or raiding.
Common beginner mistakes
