Genshin Impact Guide: Versions, Regions and Tips for New Travelers

Genshin Impact updates in versions, each one adding a region, characters, and events. This guide covers how the version cycle works, what the latest confirmed update added, and the habits that help new Travelers get the most out of the game without wasting resources.

Quick start

  1. Finish the Archon Quests for the regions you have unlocked. They unlock the world’s main systems and rewards.
  2. Spend resources on a small team you enjoy, not on every new character. A focused team is stronger than a large collection.
  3. Check the version schedule before pulling on banners, so you know which characters are coming and when.
  4. Use Primogems and events with a plan. Set a limit before you pull.
  5. Read the in-game event guides at the start of each version to catch limited rewards.

How the version cycle works

Genshin Impact releases a new version roughly every six weeks, with a new region or major story arc in each. Versions are named after the Luna series in the current cycle. The most recent update I could confirm was Luna VI, version 6.5, released April 7 to 8, 2026, which added Linnea and a Mondstadt story arc. Later versions may have released since then, so check the official schedule for the current version.

Tip Maintenance times and reward mail are announced for each version. Log in before maintenance to collect any compensation you are owed.

Getting started in the world

Finish the main quests

Archon Quests give you the story and the systems you will use all game. Finish each region before moving on, so you do not miss important rewards.

Explore for resources

Chests, Teleport Waypoints, and Domains give you the materials you need for ascension and talents. Plan your routes so you collect what your team needs.

Build a team around your favorites

Pick a main character and two or three supports that match. Elemental reactions matter, so learn which combinations work well together.

Spending resources wisely

Primogems and other currencies are limited, so decide what you want before you spend. Focus on the characters or weapons that improve your main team, and skip banners you will not use.

Common mistake: pulling without a plan Spending everything on the first banner leaves you with nothing for characters you actually need. Set a budget and stick to it.

Common beginner mistakes

Common mistake: ignoring elemental reactions Reactions like melt, vaporize, and electro-charged can change a fight. Learn what your team creates and what it reacts with.
Common mistake: skipping artifacts Artifacts are a big part of your character’s power. Upgrade sets that fit your main character and sell the rest.

Frequently asked questions

Is Genshin Impact still good for new players?

Yes. The open world and the story are a good entry point, and you can progress at your own pace with a small team.

Which character should I focus on first?

Pick the character you enjoy most, and build around their element and role. Your favorite character is a better choice than the one with the most hype.

Do I need to pull on every banner?

No. Choose the banners that improve your team, and skip the rest. Many players progress well without pulling on everything.

Where can I check the latest version details?

Check the official Genshin Impact website and in-game event pages first. Community guides are useful, but confirm the version details against the official schedule.
